Attic insulation in Brentwood CA - upstairs rooms that stay comfortable

Hot upstairs or a drafty room over the garage? We seal the attic first, then add insulation evenly to the depth your house needs.

A worker sprays loose white insulation through a hose into the open bays of a wooden attic.

The owner looks before pricing

I come out myself, go up into the attic and see the space before I put a number on anything. Our crew lead then runs the work on site with a small crew, working from what I found.

In Brentwood since 2021

I started this business in Brentwood in 2021 after learning the trade on an insulation crew. We work in many of the cities around it too, from Antioch and Oakley out to Livermore and Tracy, so ask if yours isn't named on the site.

Licensed, insured and honest about timing

We're licensed and insured. If your attic isn't ready for new insulation yet, I'll tell you and say what needs to happen first, because I'd rather wait than do your job twice. Call (925) 503-1068 to set up a visit.

Attic insulation in Brentwood, done in order

Attic insulation is the layer on your attic floor that slows heat moving between the roof and your rooms, and its R-value is how well it does that. In Brentwood it's usually where we start for a hot upstairs, a drafty room over the garage or a high power bill.

When I go up into an attic like that, I usually find insulation that's thin or packed down, with gaps around the lights, pipes and hatch letting air straight through. What moves the price is the attic's size, how many inches are already there, how much sealing it needs and whether anything old has to come out first. The age of the house matters too, since older attics tend to hide more surprises.

The schedule mostly turns on how much has to be fixed or cleared first. The written estimate from my visit lists that prep along with the insulation, so you see your own figure and the order of the work. California puts this work under its insulation contractor license, and even a job under $1,000 needs a licensed contractor once there's hired help on it.

How we do attic insulation

Clear the problems before the new layer

Roof leaks, old wiring and anything stored on a floored attic get sorted out before the new layer goes in, because insulation laid over a problem only hides it. If the old fill is soaked or full of droppings, we take it out instead of burying it, since that keeps the problem in your house. Boards on a floored attic come up so the gaps underneath can be sealed, and if they help hold up the structure, that support gets replaced first. Ask us early who moves what's stored up there.

Seal the gaps, then insulate

Air sealing, closing the gaps around can lights, pipes, wires and the hatch, comes before any insulation, because otherwise the new layer spends its life fighting a draft. Federal guidance says to seal the attic floor first in an existing vented attic, and it calls working out how much fresh air the house needs essential before sealing, so stoves, ovens, fuel-burning furnaces and fireplaces still vent properly. We keep insulation off the eave vents, because an air gap there lets the soffit vents, the openings under the eaves, bring in air and keeps the roof boards dry.

Measure first, then fill it evenly

We measure what's already up there before saying how much to add, so you aren't paying to bury good material. Most attics get blown-in insulation, loose fill sent through a hose, because it fills in around framing and wiring without disturbing your ceilings. We keep it as deep at the edges as in the middle, since the edges are where attics usually come up thin. Foam costs more and seals air as it insulates, so I lean toward it mostly when your ductwork runs through the attic. If drafts come from the walls or floors too, our home insulation work looks at the whole house.

What happens after you call us

  1. Call or send us a message

Call (925) 503-1068 or use the form, and we'll set a time for me to come see the house. If you know the attic's rough size, or you've noticed a roof leak or old pebbly fill up there, tell us then.

  2. I check the attic with you

I go up into the attic, see how many inches are there and what shape it's in, then walk you through what I found and what I'd do first. You get all of it in writing before you decide anything.

  3. Our crew does the work

Our crew lead and a small crew do the work in the order the estimate lays out and clean up as they go. When they're finished, they walk the attic with you so you can see the coverage at the edges and the clear vents.

Attic insulation questions in Brentwood

How much does attic insulation cost in Brentwood?

Across the US, attic insulation usually costs about $1 to $7.50 per square foot. Where your attic lands in that spread comes down to its size, what's already up there and the prep it needs. For a Brentwood figure on your own house, my written estimate lists the insulation along with any prep work.

What has to be fixed before insulating my attic?

A leaking roof, old knob and tube wiring that's still live, and bath fans that vent into the attic all have to be repaired before new insulation goes in, so plan and budget for that first. Old vermiculite, a pebbly gray-brown fill, may contain asbestos and needs testing and professional advice before anyone seals or insulates.

How do I know if my attic needs more insulation?

The surest way is to have an insulation contractor check what's up there and its R-value, then say whether more is worth adding and which type fits. How much makes sense changes with the climate and with where in the house it goes, so the answer depends on your house. A hot upstairs and thin spots near the edges are the usual hints.

Can I get help paying for attic insulation in Contra Costa County?

You may, if your household is income-eligible and you live in a single-family home. Contra Costa County lists BayREN's EASE Home Program, which offers low-cost upgrades that can include insulation, and BayREN covers most of the cost of eligible improvements while the household pays the rest. The county's page is the place to check whether you qualify.
